The school holidays are nearly upon us. A visit to Inveraray Jail is a great thing to do with the kids this summer – come rain or shine! And while you’re here, why not check out the other brilliant things on offer in Inveraray, from outdoor activities to visitor attractions? Here are our top three suggestions for things to do in Inveraray this July.
Go for a walk
The Dun Na Cuaiche Woodland Walk is a circular 1.5 mile trail through Inveraray Castle estate to the summit of Dun na Cuaiche (248 metres) and the watchtower. It’s a steep climb to the top, but well worth the effort. The view across the castle and beyond Inveraray to Loch Fyne is stunning. The walk will also take you past an old Pinetum (collection of conifer trees) and ruined buildings that are the remains of a lime kiln.
Go to the games
Held in the grounds of Inveraray Castle, the Inveraray Highland Games celebrates Highland culture and heritage. This year it will take place on Tuesday 21st July. Watch field and track events, piping and Highland dancing competitions and ‘heavy events’ including the world championships for tossing the caber. You’ll also find local Scottish food and drink stands and children’s entertainment.
Go on an adventure
Argyll Adventure is just down the road from Inveraray and is a fantastic active day out. With eight great activities on offer, including horse riding, paintball, crossbow shooting, bungee trampolining and climbing, there’s an adventure to suit every member of the family!
