Of course Inveraray’s history goes back much further than the 18th century. The old town of Inveraray was demolished by the Duke of Argyll between 1750 and 1776 in order that the grounds in front of Inveraray Castle could be landscaped. The first buildings of the ‘new town’ were completed in 1753 and by 1820 the town looked much as it does today.
